Engine Choices on the 2020 Ford Super Duty
In addition to its new look and new options, the 2020 Ford Super Duty boasts an all-new available engine. On top of this, its old engines are getting refined and revitalized to bring back even higher numbers than the already ridiculous stats they boasted for 2019. Let’s look at what we know about the 2020 Ford Super Duty engine options.

SOHC 6.2-Liter Gas V8
The 2020 Ford Super Duty trucks still come with a standard SOHC 6.2-liter gas V8 engine. In the 2019 iteration, this bad boy makes a full 385 horsepower @ 5750 rpm, along with 430 pound-feet of torque @ 3800 rpm.
Ford has said these stats will improve for 2020, though we don’t know any more specifics than that at the moment.
7.3-liter gas V8The all-new optional 7.3-liter gas V8 engine provides the torque, power, and capability needed for handling heavy-duty commercial applications. It’s the largest displacement engine available in any new pickup truck today, and, in the words of Ford, the most powerful engine in its class.
The remarkable design of this engine includes some throwback characteristics such as a cast iron block, pushrod design, and port injection. Additionally, it’s fitted with a forged steel crankshaft, variable valve timing, and oil jets to cool the pistons under heavy loads. Needless to say, we can’t wait to try it out.
6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo DieselThe famous 6.7-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel engine will also be returning (and improving) for the 2020 Super Duty. With a work history going back almost ten years, the turbo diesel powerplant has proven its reliability and durability under the most demanding of conditions again and again. And for 2020, it’s likewise going to get boosts to its already mind-blowing 450 hp and 935 pound-feet of torque.
The Turbo Diesel benefits this year from all-new injectors, a redesigned carriable-geometry turbo, and structural changes to the head, block, connecting rods, pistons, and bearings.
10-Speed TorqShift® w/SelectShift® Transmission
Along with the new engines, Ford is offering the all-new available 10-speed TorqShift® w/SelectShift® transmission for its 2020 Super Duty. This transmission optimizes drive rations, improves shift performance and efficiency, reduces emissions, and minimizes wear on other parts of the truck. Additionally, it produces more torque, so it improves power take-off applications.
