How does the Ford Oil Monitoring System Work

The Ford Oil Monitoring system tells you what percentage of life your oil has left in it. But how does it calculate this? The system keeps track of your driving habits to determine an estimated time frame until your next oil change. So if you live in extremely hot or cold climates, take very short trips, and do a lot of cold starts — then your oil’s life expectancy will be shorter than someone with more typical driving habits. Older systems did similar things, but only reminded you to change your oil based on a preset amount of miles driven. The new monitor from Ford gives a much more accurate estimation, since it keeps your driving habits in mind. Remember, you’ll need to reset the system on your instrument panel after getting your oil changed, otherwise it will keep telling you that you need to. Also, after one year without an oil change, it will remind you and recommend getting one.
