How to get new automatic Sync updates with Wi-Fi?
The Ford Sync 3 system available in most newer Ford vehicles is truly a technological wonder. It offers an incredible world of new features not seen before in the brand’s cars, trucks and SUVs. If you own a vehicle with an older version of Ford Sync, you may still be able to access these features by downloading an updated version of the software. Some owners can download Ford Sync 3 updates over Wi-Fi by following these simple instructions. If you have any problems along the way, a Houston Ford sales professional will be happy to assist you.

Thanks for sharing this information. I have had my Ford Edge connected to my home WiFi network for 16 months. Since installing the Sync 3 update via USB drive, I see the alert “SYNC can check for updates when connected to a WiFi network” EVERY time I start the car. No matter where I am. I am certainly not going to search for WiFi networks at some remote location. How can I keep this alert from showing up? Toggling the Automatic Software Updates to off does not eliminate this issue. I have to dismiss the alert every time I drive. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I have the same problem on my Ford Escape. It’s a 2016 and I updated by USB stick. Now I get the “SYNC can check for updates when connected to a WiFi network” every time I start the car.
I get the same thing. Ford Sync told me to do a master reset which I did and still receiving them. Very annoying
I brought my new 2017 escape into dealership because my radio would turn on with no keys in ignition. Ford said I needed update. they did update. My radio still goes on without keys and now I get a message that reads Sync can now check for updates when connected to a WiFi network. I get this message everytime I start my car. Dealership says there is no problem. The message never appeared until they did the update and now i cant get rid of it
My 2015 Fusion phone calls fade in and out. They can hear me but I can’t hear them. This happens all the time driving or parked. Please help.
I would love to know how to turn off the “Sync can check for updates when connected to a WI-FI network.” I comes up EVERT TIME I start my car!
I am certainly not going to be near a WI-FI network every time I’m in my car! I would like to turn this off and not even have any notification of any updates. And definitely don’t need WI-FI while I’m driving!
I just bought,a 19 fusion se and it was ok for 2 weeks now I get that same message. Yes I can switch off updates, but I would like the system to actually work. Customer service and the dealer are no help. I did a master reset. Worked for a few days then popped up again today
Are you kidding me?
The car has to run when updating?
We’re living in 2019 !!!
I expect that the update runs in the background when my car is meeting a Wifi connection where it’s authorized for.
Shame Ford!
I just bought a used 2018 Ford F150 w/3.5L ecoboost and 10 speed. It shows no updates since 2017. I linked it to my home wifi, even left the ignition on for about an hour, and STILL it says its scanning for updates….
What am i doing wrong?
