The answer to the question of what engine comes on the Escape depends on the trim level. The base model comes fitted with a 2.5-liter, inline four-cylinder engine powered by 168 horses. Only the S trim level features that motor. The SE and SEL models come with a smaller, but more powerful engine. Drivers of these trims can enjoy a 1.5-liter I4 engine with 179 horsepower. Those who want to maximize their engine power can do so with the Titanium model. The top-of-the-line trim comes with a 2.0-liter I4 engine, but it is powered by 245 horses and puts out 275 pound-foot of torque. With this engine, drivers can tow up to 2,000 lbs. when the Escape is properly equipped with the right trailer hitch. All of the engines listed above can be fitted with a front-wheel drivetrain or a four-wheel drivetrain.
