Tips for first-time car show participants

If you are new to car shows, there are a few simple things you can do to prevent rookie mistakes.

1. Before washing the car, clean all of the grease and grime from the engine compartment and undercarriage. Doing this out of order can cause splatters on your car’s exterior.
2. When drying the exterior, use a chamois or microfiber towel. Cotton towels can leave streaks or fibers behind.
3. Only apply wax in the shade, inside or on cool days. Working in direct sunlight and can heat up the paint, which causes the wax to dry faster and can leave hazy imperfections.
4. Make sure you’re using appropriate cleaning solutions and soaps. Leather should only be cleaned with leather conditioner. Never, ever use dish soap on the exterior.
5. Clean interior glass as your last task using automotive glass cleaner. Ammonia-based glass cleaner should be avoided at all costs.
